WHAT is Gloucester County Bird QUEST?
- A way to discover Gloucester County’s parks and natural areas.
- A way to discover the unique birds that live in and migrate through our region.
- A chance to learn how to identify birds by sight, sound, behavior, and habitat.
- A chance to have fun with family, friends, and colleagues.
- A fun morning outdoors.
- A light-hearted competition.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Teams or individuals have 5 hours on Saturday, May 4th, 2024 (7 AM to Noon) to visit sites in Gloucester County of their choice, including on our expert-led walks. Birds are identified by sight or sound. The goal is to find as many different species of birds as possible.
- During the noon hour, all participants gather at an outdoor pavilion at WIN/Wheelabrator Wildlife Refuge in Westville for lunch, T-shirts, story swapping, and door prizes.
- We will have 11 free pre-Quest training sessions in late April and early May to help your birding skills.
HOW CAN I JOIN?
- Advance registration is required. Please see the Registration page for details; we are not using paper mail-in forms!
- Your team leader will complete the bird checklist on this website on the day of the event, instead of handing in a paper checklist. However, you can still print out a paper checklist for use in the field.
- Although the Quest is a friendly competition, we do have official rules to keep everything fair.
